As of February 1, 2023, you will be charged for your entire Space2 storage space. **It will no longer be possible to get 1.5TB free.
The following data security mechanisms are enabled for Space2 storage:
- Distributed RAID: each chunk of data is stored on two different hard drives located on two different servers
- Snapshots : a snapshot is made on the storage system every day and kept for 3 days
No Space2 storage is backed up to tape.
About
The Space2 on-demand storage service is available to research teams and platforms to meet the needs of conservation or storage of scientific data no longer associated with ongoing research work. It is primarily intended for data that could not be published but that must nevertheless be preserved.

Organization
Space2 storage spaces are delivered to research teams according to their needs. You can request a single storage space for your team or multiple spaces depending on your research projects or themes.
Each space is associated with a list of users authorized to read and write to it.
When creating a storage space, you indicate the desired space quota. You can then increase or decrease this quota according to your needs.
For any request to add/remove a user or change the quota of a Space2 storage space, please contact Assistance aux utilisateurs (helpdesk)
Access
Until December 31, 2023, Space2 storage spaces are available from:
- workstations of the IGBMC internal network via the SMB protocol:
- MacOS/Linux:
smb://space2.igbmc.u-strasbg.fr - Windows:
\\space2.igbmc.u-strasbg.fr - the IGBMC cluster (
/shared/space2) - Globus (from January 2023), choose the "IGBMC Space2" collection.
As of January 1, 2024, Space2 storage spaces will only be accessible through Globus.

Pricing
4.60€/TB/mois
The quota of each storage space is fixed in size and number of files (inodes).
One TB can store up to 1 million files.
The highest quota in the month is used as the billing basis for the month.
Depending on the need expressed, the increase in quota may require the addition of new storage servers which will result in a delay of 4 to 8 weeks for its availability. We invite teams to anticipate their needs as much as possible.
